Is there some way the LO developers can make it possible for LO+Zotero users to use Chicago style full-note footnote citations and still have them compatible with Word? Right now, we can't, and are forced to use Chicago author-date in-text citations if we are collaborating w/Word users. Please, please figure out how to let us use our field's required formats and travel easily between LO & Word without citation loss or locking the citations for future editing!

Thanks!

Here's the most recent forum thread about this on zotero.org for future reference http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/25552/intercompatability-between-word-and-libreoffice/ The second post might be helpful.

To quote,

you can't use bookmarks for note-based styles like Chicago manual. And the only way to co-author with Word and Libre Office is to use bookmarks.

I cannot find a reference to the exact bug, but the problem arises from a bug in OOo where bookmarks were (are?) somehow mangled when placed inside footnotes. I'll ask the Zotero devs to elaborate more on the exact problem. Perhaps this has already been fixed in recent LO releases.

The earliest post I could find that referenced this bug is from Dec 23, 2008, which also provides some steps to reproduce (that unfortunately no longer work due to changes in Zotero) http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/5152/in-oo-repeated-first-char-when-refreshing-after-odt-is-saved-as-doc/

@aurimas, Please make sure that a bug is filed against LO (see link in my Answer) and linked from this page as well.

Perhaps the LO and Zotero devs can put their heads together and put this issue to bed.

Thanks!

Here's a search for zotero bugs in LO's bug tracker. I don't see anything promising filed or fixed...

@aurimas -- any update on finding that bug or filing a new one?

Hi @kleonard,

I'm not exactly sure what's preventing interoperability between LO and Word, and I'm not sure if this is something that should be taken up with LO's dev team or with Zotero's (or both?).

Could you please provide some clarification?

Useful info would include

  • An example document that exhibits these problems with interoperability
  • Versions of LO, Word, and Zotero on which you can reproduce this/these problem(s)
  • Specific steps to reproduce the problem(s)

Feel free to provide more information here or to file a bug in the bugtracker (if we can't find a workaround for you, we'll send you there eventually).

Please post a link to any bugs you file in a comment below using the format "fdo#123456".

Thanks!
