Can LibreOffice 'Writer' open encrypted Word documents (with password entry)?

Can LibreOffice ‘Writer’ open password-encrypted MS Word documents, if one supplies the same password originally used to encrypt the document in Word?

If not, is there any alternative to reopening and then resaving the documents (without passwords) in Word, in order to be able to use them in LibreOffice?

Thanks.

Microsoft Office support several different methods of password-encrypted files. LibreOffice can open some of the password-encrypted Microsoft Word files, but can’t open all of the files. Details can be found on this help page.

How to remove password from Word is more a question for Microsoft Office - Word forum, but searching the web I found this.

Thanks. That first URL suggests that I might be lucky (most or all of my WORD documents were created in versions of WORD that are shown as supported for imports of encrypted documents).

Re: the second URL, I hadn’t intended to inquire about password ‘removal’ – I know how to do it (and one can always resave any encrypted document without a password) – I just wanted to avoid having to do it in order to import documents into LibreOffice.

As far as I’m aware, there’s no method of ‘bulk password removal’ – which means that any de-encryption method still involves dealing with every individual WORD document separately prior to importing into L.O. But if importing with encryption intact works, that will be the next best thing.
