HELP! I SAVED THE FILE IN THE WRONG FORMAT

Hello everyone,

I have a problem… I was editing a .odt file and then when I wanted to save it as .docx file i named the file “filename.com” and it has been saves as an MS DOS .com file (executable program).
Now I can’t open it back as I have no “open as” option which would allow me to open in the right format, also I don’t have any backup from LibreOffice… how can I make this .com file be again a .odt or .docx file???

THANK YOUUUUU

looking forward for your answers, please please

Hi Vanessa,

When you open files through LibreOffice, in the bottom right above “open” dialog, you can change the *.odt or “Text Files” to “All Files”. You should then see your “filename.com” file once in the appropriate folder. When you press the file types list, you may see a long list. If “all files” isn’t shown, either scroll up or press the cursor up key. Hopefully it opens.

You could also try using Windows Explorer to rename it to “filename.odt” or “filename.docx” if that was the format that it was saved as. Windows may give you a warning for changing the extension, so select “yes” to proceed.

When you save a file, there is an Automatic Filename Extension check box. If this is checked, LO shouldn’t save future files with any extension, only the one specified in the file type box.
