I have recently downloaded LibreOffice 4.1 and am unable to set up a database as I need to download Java Runtime Environment and do not know which to download
What is your operating system name and version?
Simple rule :
Install the same type of JRE/JDK as the bit version of LO :
i.e. if you are using a 32bit version of LO, install a 32bit version of Java
If LO for Windows is 32bit, then you need a 32bit Java to be able to use Base to create hsqldb embedded database files.
On Mac, download the Java version provided by Apple, as it is not installed by default on Mavericks.
On Linux, use your package manager to install a JRE/JDK
