What versions of Java Runtime are acceptable to LibreOffice 4.2?

I recently install LibreOffice 4.2 and attempted to create an .ODB file, but when I attempt to open the ODB and create tables to support the database, I am getting the message that the JRE I have installed is invalid or corrupted. I have attempted to use both 32 bit (x86) and 64 bit versions of Java Runtime 7.0.17 and 7.0.51, none of which works.

What am I doing incorrect?

Please indicate your operating system. Thanks.

Looks like you have the current versions of Java. I have sometimes encountered that same error and then simply close the program and reopen it and then it runs correctly. (???)

However, make sure that you have the right version selected for use by LO. LO needs the 32-bit version.

Tools - Options - Advanced – check the “Use a Java runtime environment” and select version 1.7.0_51

Good luck.

Sometimes you have to back off JAVA a full point to get the compatible libraries, like using JAVA 6.X if JAVA 7.X is too new, as well as installing the 586 32 bit x86 package (you can also install the 64 bit package x64 for other uses if you have a 64 bit OS).
