Maintaining Formatting in Referenced Cells

I am managing a list that requires plain text to be formatted on multiple sheets within one document.

I am referencing a cell on a second sheet by using “=sheet1.a1” This successfully places the content from the referenced cell into the new cell. However, formatting (such as bolding or font color in the original cell) does not carry over to the new cell.

Is there any way to make formatting from the original cell appear in the destination cell, and also to make sure that whenever I make changes to the original cell, the formatting changes carry over to the new cell? I am using version 3.5.7.2.

You can use styles to maintain the same formatting across multiple cells/sheets. Formulas don’t have this capability. Select one of your cells, then in Styles and Formatting, apply an existing style to the cell or create a new one and apply to it. Right click the style name and edit it to your liking. Then go to your second sheet and apply the same style to the linked cell. Whenever you want to change the formatting of the cells across all sheets, edit the style instead of using direct formatting (such as simply clicking Bold or applying a cell background color). For more info on styles, see chapters 6 and 7 of the Writer Guide on this page.
