Is there a way to print comments from Writer inline like MS Word?

If not, is someone working on it?

The current method is not sufficient. Either double the pages printed, which is a tremendous waste of paper or all in a list at the end, which is really clunky and hard to use. Printing from Writer to match the screen view would be tremendously helpful.

Comments functionality is great but not useful if not WYSIWYG = We should be able to print a document and see on paper what we see on the screen. Or the minimum is having a reference in the text and having "the comment below the page". Really bellow the page and not on a separate page.

A bug report about this was filed last year.

What version of Word is this possible with ? I couldn't find it in Word 2010. Can you provide an example PDF of the desired result ?

In Word 2004 Mac when you print a document with comments, they show up in the right margin with dotted lines and brackets to show exactly what you are commenting on as seen here: http://goo.gl/WEzYw Thanks!

This is indeed missing from LibreOffice Writer. Please consider voting for this enhancement: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Vote_for_Enhancement#Bug_36815_-_Advanced_printing_capabilities_of_comments

This 'works' but emphasises the problem [1] Save document as .doc [2] open in the free Microsoft Office Word Viewer [3] Print - on paper or as .pdf (with appropritae driver e.g doPDF)

I hope mentioning other products (even free ones) is OK I am also hoping for a proper solution

This is quite a nice idea! Although a bit time consuming... I will try it next time.

If you want a reference in the text and a comment below the page, do

Insert > Footnote/Endnote...

I appreciate the info but it is not quite what I am looking to do. I uploaded a pdf in the comments after my original post to illustrate.

I would very much like to see this feature added. The workarounds suggested above are not sufficient. (1) for working on a final manuscript draft, the footnotes are part of the text and adding additional footnotes is problematic. (2) I don't believe there is a MS office Word Viewer on OS X. Finally, please note that there has been some similar discussion on OpenOffice:
