Can Libre Office Base be used by multiple users?

I'm looking for a way for multiple users can enter data into a database, connected to the same wired router. (This is registration of people for a convention, with two or three laptops connecting to a "server" computer that would actually store the data.)

I have heard this is possible with Access, by splitting the "front end" (where you do the data entry and print commands) and the "back end" (the actual stored data). The idea is for the "entry stations" to enter the convention attendee's data, and have it stored and have badges, receipts, etc. printed on the "server computer."

Thing is, this would entail purchasing a LOT of Access installs, which ain't cheap and would only be used once a year at the convention. Anyone have any good ideas how this could be implemented in Base?

This depends on the database engine you're using. AFAIK the embedded HSQLDB database has single-user access only. But since LO can access a wide range of database engines, you have different options:
