I have a curious problem. In certain documents the English thesaurus is active. As a consequence, in certain other documents, thesaurus in Tools >> Languages is greyed out and as a result, spell check does not happen. I have checked the language options in both the documents and they are identical. Even if I start a new document, thesaurus is inactive.

This is causing a lot of issues as I'm having to carry out manual spell-checks. Could someone please suggest a way out?

check all your documents are set to the same language. The English thesaurus is not going to work if the document (or the parts of the document you are trying to use the thesaurus in) are set to another language.
