I'm using the latest version of LibreOffice (version 3.5.0). When I insert a movie to an Impress presentation and then try to play it, Impress crashes. I've tried several movie formats (mpg & avi)- all crash. This was not a problem with previous versions of LibreOffice. Someone also pointed this out already over on the Nabble email list (http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/LO3-5-0-rc3-still-Impress-crashes-displaying-movie-td3751206.html). Anyone knows what's going on? I guess this is a bug or does the linking of movies now work differently?
fdo#45801 is RESOLVED FIXED as of LibreOffice 3.5.4
@BrassDude, please test this fix and let us know if the problem has been resolved for you. If your problems remain, please re-open that bug, or consider filing a new bug report.
When a program crashes -- for any reason -- it is considered a bug in the program. Nevermind that "the user shouldn't do that." The user did that, and the program should handle it gracefully. Thus, this is most definitely a bug in LibreOffice.
Unfortunately, it looks like this is not yet fixed as of 3.5.1: Bug 45801. Bummer!
Though it is under active scrutiny, the only pragmatic suggestion for you is to use LibO 3.4 until this bug gets fixed in the 3.5 series.
Hang in there!
