What OS, version of LibO, made recent office update or migration from lower versions (for example 3.5 -> 3.6)? Is the latest version installed - 3.5.7 or 3.6.2? Try to reset user profile http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile It helps in strange situations.

If installing the latest release doesn't seem to fix this problem, please file a bug and provide a list of steps that can reproduce it. The QA team will be happy to help you track down this issue!

I have not problems with opening ppt-files while running LO 3.5.6.2 on XP SP3.
