In typing verses, I want the space below each verse to be less than a line space. Can I do that?

I assume you use writer. Thus, I would look into styles for such a need. You could regard a verse as a paragraph or section. Maybe paragraph is the best. You would need to set the spacing at the end of the paragraph to what you need. Such a paragraph setting could be kept in a template you use for writing verses. This template should then contain all formats you need for your writing.

Select the lines or paragraphs, Format menu - paragraph - Spacing or Line Spacing.

It sounds like you probably want Line Spacing so select Proportional and set the percentage to greater or less than one line (100%).
