If I create a document, add a footer that has page number and count fields, any formatting changes I make are lost on just those fields when the document is saved and then reopened. Truly annoying. Is this a bug or just another thing I don't understand about LO Writer?

What type file are you using, native type .odt or other type like .doc or .docx? And what is your OS and your LIbreOffice version?
