text wiggles when i type

I've had this problem for awhile and am sure it has a simple solution. Please forgive what is surely a stupid question.

Sometimes for no clear reason when I use Writer with simple default settings the text begins to "wiggle" as I type, moving a little (one character or less) to the left and back with each new character I type. It drives me crazy! If I cut and paste to a new document, it stops wiggling. Please, if anyone can tell me what I am doing to cause this, I'd be very grateful.
