How do I insert a picture during a mail merge?

I am trying do a mail merge in Writer from a spreadsheet. I am trying to insert a picture as part of the mail merge (the filename would be specified in the spreadsheet). I can’t seem to figure out how to do this.

What I would imagine is something similar to the following.

  1. Define data source (in this case a spreadsheet)

  2. Map fields of the data source with field so the spreadsheet. One of the fields in the spreadsheet would be a filename of a picture.

  3. Create a frame, or some other container that would hold a picture. Map the field from the spreadsheet to the contents of that picture placeholder.

  4. When the mail merge runs, text is inserted into the target document (current observed behavior), but a picture would also be linked to its placeholder in the target document as well.

I am not sure about my answer, but did you check if there is a setting showing the path or the picture?

Hi @ryan,

Based on the number of replies you’ve received, it looks like it might not be possible to do this using the current set of tools in LibreOffice.

If @ROSt53’s answer doesn’t help you figure this out, please file an enhancement bug and provide as much information about your desire to embed an image during a mail merge. Don’t forget to mark your bug as an ‘enhancement’. The QA team will be happy to help you triage your feature request in the bugtracker.

Please post a link to any bugs you file in a comment below using the format “fdo#123456”.

Thanks!

Still not possible as far as I know.

Bug report to request that feature is at fdo#87195.
