Is there a fix for libreoffice not working after Windows 10 Fall update?

After the Fall update to Windows 10 LibreOffice will not longer open. The splash screen appears for a few seconds and then nothing.

I’d suggest first to tr resetting user profile, then to reinstall LibreOffice.

Tried that, it didn’t work.

I had updated to 1809 even before MS had retracted the first released version of the update to re-release it because of user data destruction. I did that because someone told about problems with LO. Still, I hadn’t been able to reproduce the problem. I would be glad to know more about that to try to find the problem.

Does LibreOffice Safe Mode (see in start menu) help?

Did you get the Win 10 update before Microsoft withdrew it and re-issued it, or did you get the revised update?

Is there a fix…?

Sure. Throw out that Microsoft trash and install an open-source operating system like Linux or BSD.

And it’s really good advise that works.

Sadly, ever since Bill Gates has let others run that company, it has notably changed. It seems to now treat customers as objects. My observation is that the love that was at Microsoft in the early years is gone. I started my move from Windows to Linux about 2 years ago, and am happy I got started. I setup a dual boot. But it came with a steep learning curve. So +1 for your answer. It’s a tough choice but I think Microsoft is only going to get worse, and Linux is only going to get better

@gabix This is not a suitable answer.

@Hrbrgr: why? Please, substantiate.

A pity, I thought you’re on your own. If I have problems with a VW car, the man in the workshop also tells me not to buy a Fiat.

I have Windows 10, version 1803, last update was 10/10/2018, (auto update check 10/14/2018! Runs great and LibreOffice 6.1 also runs great with it, I use it daily! Try opening it other ways, desktop, window icon, double click a file in file Explorer. It’s easy and quick to just uninstall L.O. and reinstall it, no personal file will be lost. May want to save user file, if you have words in personal dictionary or other stuff like backup files!

user file

User profile, it has lots of files :slight_smile:

Yes it does, but mine is only 21MB. My path is C/Users/Administrator/AppData/Roaming/LibreOffice/4/user. I just copy/save “user”. Somewhere in those many files is my personal dictionary and backup of files I have opened, is in the user file. I think it also has other personal settings I have used, cause each update other settings I have chosen in “options”, is still there!
