How replace LO installation with earlier version

I installed LO version 6.1.2 but it crashes too frequently for my needs so I would like lo install the previous, more stable version, 6.0.6.

What is the best way to replace my current version with the previous version?

I think first you should try Menu/Help/Restart in Safe mode. Maybe some issue with the profile on updating the version.

Thank you. It would be a good idea if I really want to work with version 6.1.2.
However, I want to install the earlier version since it is more stable. It should not be hard to do but I want to be sure that I do it the best way.

To replace a newer version with an earlier version:

  1. Uninstall the newer version;
  2. Install the earlier version.

Hi Mike, Thank you.
It is a pretty basic question, I know. What I was trying to understand (but did not articulate) was what happens to the user profile. I copied it to a separate location to be safe, but found that deleting the program did not delete the user profile.
I am adding this information here in case others have the same question.

@catbill, In the most general case, one would want to make a backup before upgrading to be able to roll back if necessary. But although I know this, I sometimes forget to do this myself. Because yes, in theory, the newer profile could not work with the older software. I think it’s safe for you, but I’ll let Mike address that aspect of this. One tool I am starting to use is an underlying file system that supports snapshots.

For some of my partitions I now use btrfs and with something called snapper. It takes snapshots instantly every hour. It then automatically removes some of the older snapshots, but still leaving enough so you can go back months if necessary. So when disaster strikes it’s fairly easy to roll back an hour, 4 hours, a day, a week, or many months if necessary. And you don’t have to restore everything. You can select files.
