How do I get the audio of a ppt I downloaded to play?

The powerpoint was originally created in microsoft. However, I do not have microsft on my computer.

I’m answering on an Android tablet so my answer is somewhat “off the cuff,” but hopefully it will provide you with some help. Before I go into my answer, let me preface with a few remarks.

First, you did not mention the version of Powerpoint that created the slides. This could perhaps affect my answer, but given you mention ppt and not pptx, I am going to assume the version is earlier than Office 2007.

Second, I am an experienced MS-Office user, but somewhat of a newbie to LO. I would normally prefer to test my answer before giving it, but it may be awhile before I can do so and I would like to help you now if I can.

Okay, let’s get to my answer. If the audio file was recorded directly into the ppt slide, I believe you will find it is embedded as part of the ppt (and not a separate file). Regardless, the audio playback is not dependent on Powerpoint, but on the player software you have loaded on your computer.

Your version of Powerpoint will likely embed only wmv files. You need a player that can play this format.

LO Impress should be able to open the ppt file. VLC makes a very nice player you can download for free (find it using your web search engine). I believe it should play the wmv format just fine. You just need to associate the wmv format with the VLC app on your computer.

Yes. Installed codec support used by LO is listed in the answer here.

I have the exact same problem. The pptx files are created like this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/o

I use Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon (Version 4.6.6). My libre office version is: 6.4.6.2 I don’t know which PowerPoint version was used. Since my fellow students make the presentations.

Concerning the other answer which was given in this thread: VLC Media Player is installed on my computer. It still doesn’t work.
