WPS files transferred to LibreOffice do not display boxed columns and rows as originally formatted

On moving to Windows 8 with a new computer, my existing (Windows Works7.0, Windows XP) correspondence and documents were transferred to LibreOffice. All letters etc display as original, but some tabled documents, with boxed columns and rows, only display as one long list, with the column headings in one separate group; ie, not attached. Why is this? Is it possible to rearrange these without too much trouble, or will they need to be re-written?

Can you please write what is your LibreOffice version from Help | About LibreOffice?

Hello furface,
normally, LibreOffice 4.1 contains a new version of libwps, which contains new code to try to reconstruct tables, texboxes, … while the previous versions of LibreOffice do not even try to reconstruct them.

Of course, there can remain some problems ; so if you have used LibreOffice 4.1, if possible ( ie. if the files are not confidential, … ), I would be interested to get hand on such WPS file which converts badly…

Hi Osnola, My version of LibreOffice is 4.0.4.2., so the newer version may solve the problem. The files are not in the least confidential, being holiday travel lists, for myself and my wife when driving around Europe. So, if you wish, I could send you a copy of one of them.

Hello Furface, yes, it is probably a good idea to try if these problems are solved with LibreOffice 4.1 ; you can download it on http://www.libreoffice.org/download .

Note: you can find my email address on http://www.loria.fr/~alonso/

Hi Osnola, I have had three attempts to open LibreOffice 4.1, all unsuccessful. I give up. I did download version 4.0.5, which was no problem, opened immediately - no idea what the problem is with 4.1. I will send a copy of one of the tabulated documents.

Ok, when I will receive the WPS file, I will convert it and send you back the new conversion result ; so that you can see if all is ok or not…

Note: for installing LibreOffice 4.1, as I suppose that you are on Windows and I am on Mac, I can not give any help :-~ But it can be useful to indicate the error that Windows gives to see if other people can help or not…
