Existing microsoft powerpoint won't transfer to LibrOffice powerpoint

1.someone just downloaded LibreOffice and tried to open her existing Microsoft Power POint but the Impress would not open it.

  1. If she takes the Impress to school where Microsoft is being used, will she be able to open Impress at the school computer?

She should save as .ppt if she wants to use her presentation on a computer running MS Office.

Hi Anonymous,

Sounds like we have two issues here:

  1. An existing powerpoint file isn’t opening in LibreOffice Impress properly.
  2. For a presentation created in LibreOffice Impress, what export format should be used so that the presentation will open in MS-Office?

Let’s deal with #2 first. The most recent versions of MS-Office support the open interchange file format of ODF 1.2. If you’re using that software at school, there’s should be no need for any special export step – just take the ODP file created by Impress and display it using MS-Office.

If you’re using an older version of MS-Office, I agree with @Denny1: Use the PPT file format for compatibility purposes.

For part #1, it’s possible that a newer version of LibreOffice will open the PowerPoint file. If installing the latest release doesn’t seem to fix this problem, please file a bug and provide a list of steps that can reproduce your problem. The QA team will be happy to help you track down this issue!

Please post a link to any bugs you file in a comment below using the format “fdo#123456”.

Thanks!
