I have provided this answer with example files in another forum here. I have edited it slightly for greater clarity:

Endnotes are stored in-line in the XML and then moved to the end of the current section by the rendering engine. To get some text to appear at the head of the list of endnotes there appear to be two possible options:

  • Insert a page break using the Default Style page style OR using the Endnote page style.
  • On the new page insert your text to sit above the endnote list.
  • Highlight all text prior to the endnotes (including the text to sit above the endnote list).
  • Insert > Section > Footnote/Endnotes tab > check Endnotes / Collect at end of section.

The page break using the Default Style page style will create a separating bar between the text and the list of endnotes, while the one using the Endnote page style will have no such mark.

Also refer my related answer on this forum here in relation to allowing content after the endnotes.

How effective this will be when using the DOCX format I am uncertain as sections are handled differently by MSO and LO. Please try it and report your finding back here.
