word screen shot.jpg Libre screen shot.jpg

I've attached a screen shot of the original word file as well as the same file opened in Libre. This may give you a better idea of what I'm trying to accomplish.

Notice that there is a numbered list, however, within some of the items there is a secondary list which is not part of the global numbered list. ie. note 2 contains an un-numbered list. I accomplish this in Word by having two paragraph styles. One style is for the numbered list and the other is for the internal lists.

I realize now that the styles from word show up in Libre under the custom styles list and basically work. However, they do not seem to preserve the tab stops that are being used to format the interior list. You can see this in the Libre screen shot where the interior list in item 2 is formatted incorrectly.

In the end, this file has to work correctly in MS Word because it gets sent to independent contractors who don't have/won't have Libre. If there's no way to get Libre to preserve the formatting, edit within the formatting and then save in a way that Word can open correctly then we'll be forced to upgrade to MS Office throughout the office. At the end of the day, the MS Office license is relatively cheap but I'd rather give my support to an open source project if possible...

Thanks for your help.
