From a file manager like Windows Explorer, Mac Finder or an equivalent on Linux and other OSes, you can select multiple files, right-click and choose "Open" or "Open with... > LibreOffice". Other than Microsoft Works, LibreOffice will open each file in its own window. You can switch between the windows using OS-defined keyboard shortcuts, or use LibreOffice's Window menu.

Alternatively, you can open the Open... dialog window from the File menu and select multiple files before clicking the button Open.
