Function myFunction(a,b,c)
If not ISNUMBER(a) Then
myFunction = "NaN"
Else
REM Calculations here
myFunction = result
End If
End Function
I've found the LibreOffice Calc function `ISNUMBER()` that does exactly what I want, but I don't know how to call it from the implementation of my LibreOffice Basic function… Upon execution, the implementation given above would show a message box with the error message `BASIC runtime error. Sub-procedure or function procedure not defined.`
I've also come across the LO Basic function `isNumeric()` but it does not have exactly the same behavior. In particular, when using a cell with `#DIV/0!` as argument, `isNumeric(#DIV/0!)`returns `TRUE` whereas `ISNUMBER(#DIV/0!)` returns `FALSE`. I want the latter behavior.
The behavior I want is:
- True if a number e.g. "3" or "3.1415"
- False if the content is a string e.g. "hello"
- False if it is a LO Calc error e.g. "Error: 510"
- False if mathematical errors e.g. "#N/A!" or "#DIV/0!" (that's the difficult part! See paragraph below…)
Eventually, regardless of my current problem (how to call the `ISNUMBER()` function), I would (also ;) ) love a general answer that could give a general procedure as to how to call LibreOffice Calc functions from the implementation of a LibreOffice Basic function.
Thanks in advance for your answers ;)

It is for some hypothetical situations. What I am wanting to do is to have a column of random numbers, then 2 columns of numbers in percentage based off of the random number in the cell on that same row. So say Column A for the list of random numbers, Column B and Column C for the profits by percentage. The hypothetical numbers need to look real for the situation though. Like this :
random numbers deal profit trade profit
0.5924370951212 59.24% 592.44%
0.986644999118732 98.66% 986.64%
0.69899366207306 69.90% 698.99%
0.29986947345673 29.99% 299.87%
0.175831086796236 17.58% 175.83%
As you can see, some of the numbers in the 2nd column would be OK for a business trade or a stock trade. All of the numbers in column 2 would even be fairly realistic for a stock trade if you got very lucky on some trades. The numbers in column 3 would not be realistic for business transactions (unless you were a bank maybe? ) but some of them might look realistic for a stock trade, those trades like google or apple when you catch the stock way down or got in on the ground floor and held on.
I can go through the whole spreadsheet doing formulas one at a time and make it look realistic, but it is very tedious if you have like 100 or more random numbers you want to make realistic. So, I tried to do a formula in the first cell of Column B and Column C, and then drag & fill below so that they would process the numbers on each row of Column A. I tried nested IF Functions, even tried nested IF & AND Functions, trying to get results that would look realistic as hypothetical numbers.
But I couldn't make it work. The only way I could think of to do it was to have a separate IF Function for each range : like if it is .01 to .1 do this, if it is .11 to .2 do this, and so on up to if it is .91 to .99 do this. I could get it to work using an IF Function for A1<=.3, then like nested IF for A1>.3, etc. But I don't know how to specify from .11 to .2 in a Function. I tried like if(A1=.11:.2,(A1*1),0) but that did not work, got an error code.
Does anyone know how I might set this thing up so that I can use nested IF Functions and specify a range like .11 to .2? I was thinking nested IF's like (A1>=.1 do this, A1>=.2, A1>=.3, etc) would not work because if the number was like .3 then it would meet the requirements of all 3 if statements.
If anyone can figure out what I'm trying to say and knows a way to do this setup I wold appreciate the help. Thanks
Edit: My apologies for posting this question over on the OpenOffice forum as well, I should have given people more time to respond here. Quite embarrassing. I tried the method suggested in the comment by Mike Kaganski, I did not get any errors but the answer came out 0.00% -- so I must be doing something wrong.SteveH_66Wed, 06 Mar 2019 03:55:39 +0100https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/185627/Functions problemhttps://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/184655/functions-problem/ I am working on libreoffice calc. For example, as "" or "---"?
I would like to use NA in cell functions to indicate when the data that would appear in those cells cannot be referenced for expected reasons, but the way NA displays by default is just too alarming and visually intrusive (i.e. big) in many cases. Since this is a matter of personal preference, I thought there might be some way to change the way it displays on a given spreadsheet or by program default. In the first column I have a symbol containing letters, numbers and special characters.
In the second column I have a symbol containing letters, numbers and special characters. Some of the symbols are identical to those in the first column but there are also others.
The third column has numeric values.
I need a function that will check if the next symbols in the first column are in the second column. If the same value is found, the corresponding value from the third column will be returned.

The "Day()" function doesn't work on dates prior to 1582-10-15. For what I'm doing, all I need (RE this issue) is for Day() to return the "day of the month" part of the date; else, I need a reliable way to extract the "day of the month" component from the displayed date.
For my entertainment, I'm using a cell format that shows the date as "YYYY-MM-DD NN"; using the standard ISO8601 format doesn't help. I can change the format to show only the DD component; however, this is useless for my calculations, as the underlying information is unaffected.
An example of the problem involves calculating the years, months and days between two dates; in this case, I end up with a text value automatically displayed in either a "Y-MM-DD", a "YY-MM-DD" or a "YYY-MM-DD" format (with right alignment and a fixed-pitch font, the data presents nicely).
Simply subtracting the smaller date from the larger, and applying a date format, doesn't return the correct answer (a problem with even modern dates, but I'm not dealing with that right now).

What I would like to do is: =ROW(ADDRESS(MATCH(A1,A1:A2,0),1,4))
That produces "Err:504".
This works (result is "1"): =ROW(A1)
This works (result is "A1"): =ADDRESS(MATCH(A1,A1:A2,0),1,4)
I have also tried: =CELL("ROW",ADDRESS(MATCH(A2,A2:A3,0),1,4))
That produces "#REF!"
Am I missing something obvious or is there another way to do this?

Consider a start time and end time entered this way in fields formatted to show HH:MM
Start time: 20:11
End time: 20:20
Duration: 00:08 (End time minus Start time)
Hold on! Shouldn't the duration should be 00:09?
When I look at the actual figures entered by Ctrl+Shift+;, I see ...
Start time: 20:11:48.42
End time: 20:20:26.28
and if I reformat the Duration field as HH:MM:SS, I get the result ...
Duration: 00:08:37.86
... which of course is correct.
So, my question(s):
Is there an easy way to either truncate the Insert Current Time function (Ctrl+Shift+;) so it only inserts HH:MM, *or* what's the easiest way to round that Duration field?

Column A has dates in the format "Oct 06 2018 07:20:24". Columns B-D have numbers. If I check the format the dates are considered "Text" and the numbers are considered "Numbers". I highlighted column B and selected "Insert Columns Left" and created a new blank column B next to the dates in column A which moved the three columns of numbers in columns B-D to the right to C-E. I tried to calculate the DATEVALUE function in new blank cell B2 from the date in cell A2 so I entered "=DATEVALUE(A2)" for the cell containing the text "Oct 06 2018 07:20:24" and the result in the cell was "=DATEVALUE(A2)". No calculation of the function "DATEVALUE" was performed. I then tried to calculate in cell B3 the sum of numbers in cells (C3,D3 and E3) and again the result was "=SUM(C3:E3)". If I go to column F and use the function wizard, the functions work. If I go to the inserted column B (cell B5) and use the function wizard for "=DATEVALUE(A5)" the function wizard shows the result as a number but "OK"ing the calculation results in "=DATEVALUE(A5)" and not a numerical value. Same for the "SUM" function. Checking the format for cell B5 I see it is "Text" so I change it to "Number" but the result remains "=DATEVALUE(A5)". None of the functions will calculate in the created column B.Qboy61Sun, 07 Oct 2018 19:38:24 +0200https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/168024/sum of function of cells in range - Impossible? What I tried is to get the cell I want to put the function string and then assigning the value using CellVariable.Value and CellVariable.Function, but then LibreOffice Converts the text and the function doesn't work, displaying in the final cell "suma(a3:a5)" instead of the result of that function:
sub FirstAttemptCode
Dim Document As Object
Dim Sheet As Object
Dim Cell As Object
Document = ThisComponent
Sheet = Document.Sheets(0)
Cell = Sheet.getCellByPosition(0,0)
Cell.Formula = "=SUMA(A3;A5)"
end sub
Doing it with macro recorder makes use of CurrentController.Frame and uno "frame.dispatchHelper", which works, but the process is more like automatized user input than code executing, which make the process tediously slow.
Also tried to use `myDoc.lockControllers()`, `myDoc.addActionLock()` and `myDoc.removeActionLock()`, `myDoc.unlockControllers()` at the end as suggested [Here](https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=42396#p195573) but nothing went faster and the sheet got "bugged", so I would humbly ask for a better way of overcoming this, as the more I search more lost I feel.
Here's the macro recorder-like code in case it helps:
sub MacroRecorderCode
rem ----------------------------------------------------------------------
rem define variables
dim document as object
dim dispatcher as object
rem ----------------------------------------------------------------------
rem get access to the document
document = ThisComponent.CurrentController.Frame
dispatcher = createUnoService("com.sun.star.frame.DispatchHelper")
rem ----------------------------------------------------------------------
dim args1(0) as new com.sun.star.beans.PropertyValue
args1(0).Name = "StringName"
args1(0).Value = "=SUMA(B2;C1)"
dispatcher.executeDispatch(document, ".uno:EnterString", "", 0, args1())
end sub
*Edit*: Using LibreOffice 5.3.6.1, with Spanish Language.
*Edit2*: Seems that trying to use "localized" version of calc functions triggers the error, writting "=SUM(B2;C1)" translates to "=SUMA(B2;C1)" in the spreadsheet cell.
*Edit3*: Changed String in both Subs to the one I was actually using and improved question looks a bit.XanderNThu, 13 Sep 2018 10:13:30 +0200https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/165567/Why does'nt "is none" work in python for Calc?https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/163735/why-doesnt-is-none-work-in-python-for-calc/Per the PEP 8 Style Guide, the preferred way to compare something to None is the pattern if Cond is None. This seems not to work with Libreoffice 6.1.0.3 (x64) for windows.
This code works:
> if minValue == None:
pass
else:
if result < minValue:
result = minValue
But this does not:
> if minValue is None:
> pass
> else:
> if result < minValue:
> result = minValue
When running the code in an IDE outside Libreoffice the "is None" code works and the "== None" yields a warning (based on PEP 8) such as:
*"This inspection highlights comparisons with None. That type of comparisons should always be done with 'is' or 'is not', never the equality operators."*
It took me a good while to figure this one out and one of the reasons I post this question is to point the issue out so that some one else might get help if they are stuck.
Anyone knows why LibreOffice Python behaves like this?
Thanks,

I have been trying to use spreadsheet functions to complete a project for someone and I need to have Calc functions reference another cell from the cell that the formula is in. I can use =(ADDRESS(ROW(),COLUMN(),4)) to return the cell address that the function is in.
However, I can't use the ADDRESS function within the OFFSET function to get the current cell the OFFSET function is in to get the same result, such as =OFFSET((ADDRESS(ROW(),COLUMN(),4)),-1,5).
Does ADDRESS not play well with others, or am I doing something wrong?

When I use this formula what in my opinion is wrong there no error shown, I miss the function separator before the second NOT function. The result TRUE or FALSE is given, based on the last part of the second NOT function.
=AND(NOT(IFERROR(IF(SEARCH(":",$F11)>=SEARCH("U",$F11),1,0),0))NOT(IFERROR(IF(SEARCH(":",$F11)>=SEARCH("F",$F11),1,0),0)))
When I remove both NOT functions the formula gives: Err:508 this is correct!
=AND(IFERROR(IF(SEARCH(":",$F12)>=SEARCH("U",$F12),1,0),0)IFERROR(IF(SEARCH(":",$F12)>=SEARCH("F",$F12),1,0),0))
When I put extra bracket add the NOT functions there is an error (Err:508) shown...
=AND((NOT(IFERROR(IF(SEARCH(":",$F11)>=SEARCH("U",$F11),1,0),0)))(NOT(IFERROR(IF(SEARCH(":",$F11)>=SEARCH("F",$F11),1,0),0))))
My question about it, which formula is wrong the first or the last one or how should I use it in this situation?
Thank you.

Now I need to check whether there are any repetitions inside the block in the B-Cells (e.g. B5-B16) and if so delete them. Furthermore I need to check if the values of the AM-Cells are repeated anywhere outside the box (e.g. AM5-AM16) and if so delete them. This pattern would have to be repeated till line 1100 where the document ends. So the next "box" would be A17-AZ17 to A28-AZ28).
I have vague feeling that regex might be appropriate but I've no clue what to search for or do exactly in my case...
Any help would be much appreciated! hiwwflerMon, 11 Dec 2017 20:22:26 +0100https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/140441/I'm getting incorrect sum when adding numbers using sum functionhttps://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/137999/im-getting-incorrect-sum-when-adding-numbers-using-sum-function/b2 through b5 are numbers. B6 contains formula =sum(b2,b3,b4,b5). Result in B6 does not equal the sum of b2:b5.
Also tried =sum(b2:b5)
edit: two of the cells show black when I turn on value highlighting. But there is no apostrophe in front of the value in those cells.GenkiTue, 14 Nov 2017 17:45:01 +0100https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/137999/Function List missing from Insert Menuhttps://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/137597/function-list-missing-from-insert-menu/ I am reading the help menu. It mentioned the Function List being opened from the Insert > Function List. My calc. only has Function that opens the Function Wizard.
So, is that List gone on purpose? If so, then maybe the Help info needs to be updated.joeh6966Fri, 10 Nov 2017 17:51:54 +0100https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/137597/Any way to request functions for this website?https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/131277/any-way-to-request-functions-for-this-website/Hey all.
I have asked many questions on this website and would like to search my questions for key terms using some kind of search bar, instead of trawling through them to find an old answer to one of my questions.
NOTE: I don't want to search for title terms as I often can't remember the way I worded the title of a question.
Rather, I want to search the contents of my questions for key terms.
Is there any way to contact the administrators of this website to request functions such as the addition of such features as previously mentioned?
Perhaps some kind of polling option would be cool too, to help admin gauge whether adding a function is worthwhile or not based on the amount of interest in it.
