Hi:
The title says almost everything. This Math (NOT TexMaths) editor anomalous behavior is new for me. It did not happen in LO writer 6.1.x. I just go to the insert menu, choose Insert Object > Formula, and ipso facto get a formula field INSIDE a frame, instead of just a Math formula edit window... What I do then is:
- select the formula field inside the frame delimiter, cut it (CTRL-X) and paste it outside on the page (CTRL-V).
- select the frame and delete it.
- start editing in my formula per usual.
It is systematic and basically breaks the work flow completely. Is there a record of this happening to anybody else and a solution or workaround ?

When I'm inserting a formula in Writer some characters are correct others do not make sense.
For example
- the + sign is a letter
- Round brackets are 2 phones on each side
I would like to know how to get the normal characters. 2 images below are illustrating the problem.

I'm trying to work out, with a apparently very complex formula, holidays that our employees accrued and use based on their hourly wage.
OK so let's take MARCH:
C4 & C5 are employee's hours worked;
D5 are holidays accrued (%12.07 of C3);
E4 & E5 is the pay/h earned by the employee that month (E3 it's the average pay considering hours worked [=((C4*E4)+(C5*E5))/(C3)]);
F3 it's simply hours of holidays taken by the employee.
Now, in March this employee didn't take any holiday so those 19.9hours accrued will go into April (paid £8.39/h).
In April this employee took 25hours of holidays so I would need to pay 19.9hours at £8.39/h from March + 5.1hrs @ £9/h from April.
And so on...
Is there any way to this with formulas?
Please help!

my current problem: in Build ID: 5.0.6.2-14.el7, I have a document with several math. formulas. These look perfect in the editor, but are completely erased from any form of output (export as jpeg, pdf, png, print preview, print to file/pdf). Switching on or off "Embed fonts in the document" has no impact.
I attach a small example document.[formula_missing_in_print_and_export.odt](/upfiles/15324487163512479.odt)
and the png [formula_missing_in_print_and_export.png](/upfiles/15324487982910495.png) it was exported as. The pdf export is not permitted as an attachment here, but looks similar to the png.
Would updating help or is this another problem? If the latter it would be very nice if LO threw an error message instead of silently dropping the formulae.

This isn't the first time this has happened, but it has been incredibly rare. I've been able to write several lab reports without errors since the first time it happened about 2 months ago.
I've tried re-opening the file, and I've tried exporting to PDF to see if the equations would show up there, but no luck. I don't know if it's relevant, but I'm using it on linux mint 18.
Recovering the data isn't important to me as there are only a couple which I can easily recreate at this point. I'm just concerned about fixing the problem so I don't accidentally turn in a report with a missing equation that I didn't spot.

I am referring to the bug whereby formulas randomly vanish even when they aren't edited. Some things I've tried:
- Copying these objects when I suspect corruption. Doesn't work, the copied formulas carry the corruption / are empty.
- Killing the program & re-loading from last save. Doesn't work, the corruption somehow makes it into the save file?
- Disabling the auto-save feature. Doesn't work, suggesting that the corruption isn't caused by save errors.lowuser15Sun, 10 Dec 2017 09:12:33 +0100https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/140303/Adding number to formula automaticlyhttps://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/137527/adding-number-to-formula-automaticly/Hi,

I use LibreOffice Writer 5.3.1.2 on Ubuntu 17.
I'm having trouble with the space around Greek letters in formulas.
Horizontally there is too much space, for instance after a Greek capital delta. (what should look like Δt looks like Δ t)
Vertically there is not enough space. A Greek letter in a fraction is almost glued to the fraction bar. When I increase the space around fraction bars the Greek letter moves, but so do all the non-Greek letters and numbers which were in the correct position.
Any suggestions how I can solve this?

I have been a happy Writer user (version 5.0.2.2, in Linux Mint 17.1), the formula support is great and beautiful. Just a quick question.
Is there a way I can copy & paste math formula in latex into Writer's formula editor?
Yeah, the reason for this is being lazy, suppose I want to prepare a handout on finite difference method, many formulas on this topic are available on Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finite_difference, and the format is latex (right click -> inspect element). If Writer can understand them directly, then preparing the document would be much faster!
This does not work by default, as Writer uses a different grammar for formula, but could there be a workaround?TaoziSat, 03 Oct 2015 21:09:31 +0200https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/58611/Excessive spacing on Formula objects - Help neededhttps://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/81549/excessive-spacing-on-formula-objects-help-needed/Hi folks,
A while ago I was asking how to adequately use inline equations in LibreOffice. The problem is that the formula objects come with a left and right spacing/gap by default. That spacing makes it impossible to use these objects inline in a sentence that contains full-stops or commas (see the attached document [Excessive_Formula_Spacing.odt](/upfiles/1478801152442649.odt) ).
After a long time finding possible solutions, a user in this forum found a very simple and easy solution: just set the formula's left and right **Object→Wrap→Spacing** to zero (https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/62942/how-to-use-math-variables-amidst-text-in-writer/)
I then realized that to fix this problem, all it was necessary was to set the LibreOffice default value of the **Object→Wrap→Spacing** to zero. That is it! This simple fix would make the lives of everyone (esp. the beginner) a lot easier.
I then filed a bug in LO bugzilla explaining this issue. I got the following answer:
*No, the current default spacing is reasonable for general input of formulas.
In line on a common base with a string of text is a special case that is simply
handled per formula object with the Wrap value as in comment 0 (or/and possibly
setting the formula's internal spacing with edit Format -> Spacing ->
Category:Borders)*
*Setting different defaults is done by modifying the Frame style -> Formula
where tighter left/right wrap can be set.
And within the Math editor the Format -> Spacing -> Category:Borders can be set
to take a new default to produce more appealing in line spacing. The two
becomes a per-user default for new formulas.*
*Imagine it would be possible to develop a new Frame style -> FormulaInline
style to simplify what is currently a per-user customization.*

I cannot respond to this message. That is why I am here asking for your help/opinion: I don't understand how the *current default spacing is reasonable for general input of formulas*. What do you guys think? Is the default spacing that reasonble as to destroy the possibility of having out-of-the-box inline equations? Also is all this worth the hassle of having to develop a new to *develop a new Frame style -> FormulaInline*? The solution to this big problem (for those many beginners working/studying physics/maths or engineering at least...) is so increadibly simple that hurts.
If you agree that the default value for formula spacing should be zero, let us know in the comments and if possible, raise the issue in bugzilla again by filling out the same bug. If you think the default spacing is good, let us know in the comments why as it would be nice to know why.ZecaThu, 10 Nov 2016 19:15:06 +0100https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/81549/Problem with functionhttps://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/80852/problem-with-function/I made a formula in LibreOffice Writer with Insert > Object > Formula...
