OpenOffice has the ability to insert a MathType object using the "*Insert OLE Object*" with a submenu entitled "*Further Objects*" which opens up to other OLE functions installed on the machine.
A YouTube video shows how to do this quite simply:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxMq3g_YI7I
Unfortunately, either through my own inexperience or LibreOffice's design decision, there is no such option in your *Insert OLE Object*. Only objects that appear are the LibreOffice entries.
I know about your equation editor and it is fine, but would like the option to use MathType agagin as I am, as many are, used to using MathType in various MS Office Suites.
Thanks!

I have Linux installed and I would like to avoid using Windows.
When I open the document, formulas and so on are displaying nice, except that they are displaying as Images and I cannot do anything with them. My main goal is to be able to edit them (I do not mind if it is not with MathType).
Things I have tried without success:
- Install both LibreOffice and MathType in Wine; LibreOffice crashes without giving any code error, it just keeps crashing.
- Having LibreOffice installed at Linux and MathType installed in Wine; obviously, it is like having nothing installed.
Does anyone has encountered any solution to this problem? I have searched through the net but nothing worked.

**LibreOffice Version:** 4.2.8.2
**MathType** (via Wine): 6.9otorrillasTue, 26 May 2015 15:04:55 +0200https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/51142/mathtype equation numbershttps://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/45566/mathtype-equation-numbers/Hi all,
I am having the following problem: people I work with insist on using ms office and mathtype to write their scientific reports and papers on windows. I however have to use linux (for other programs for my research) and I am using libreoffice (to open their doc and docx files) and latex for my own documents.
Now here is the problem: if they send me a document written with word+mathtype and it has equations with equation numbers, I cannot do the following: see the equation numbers or edit the equations when I open the document in libreoffice on linux. I have tried to open the document in libreoffice on windows with mathtype installed on the machine. The equations will open in mathtype but the equation number still not showing.
Is there a fix for this? Has anyone solved this problem?
I have seen a guy from MathType on this site going on about the how mathtype is the best and all that and how they made some market study and concluded that a linux version would not be very profitable but he is just wrong. Whoever made that study for them should be sacked because they clearly don't know what people in scientific fields like to use, operating system wise.
I repeat I only need this to be solved because other people insist on using ms office and mathtype and I would rather avoid dual boot or virtual machines just for this.

Is there a way to add a keyboard shortcut or toolbar button to insert a specific OLE object? I.e., I've just installed MathType on my system, and I created a keyboard shortcut in LO Writer to "Insert" > "OLE Object"; that's as specific as I could get. That takes me to the OLE dialogue, then I have to choose "Further Objects" > "MathType 6.0 Equation". Is there any way to get straight to the "MathType 6.0 Equation" without going through all the extra keystrokes?
Aside: Once the object is inserted, it by default is set to word wrap. I want the equations on their own lines; can I change the default word wrap behavior?
(I added MathType because my LO Math equations keep on disappearing -- [link](http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/17773/formulas-disappearing-or-shrinking-in-lo-writer/). Anyone else experiencing this?)

But I still can't figure out how to edit them directly with LibreOffice (Math). Any guidance is appreciated.ZombifierWed, 16 May 2012 13:33:28 +0200https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/2660/
