How do I open PDF files in Windows 8?

My Windows operating system, running Windows 8, insists on opening PDF files with MS Reader. I prefer part of the LibreOffice suite, but I cannot download such a facility, although it appears on an extensions download list. What am I not doing right?

Thanks
Tony B.

Hi @london_guru,

It sounds like you’ve got two separate questions here:

  1. How do I download and install a PDF-related extension for LibreOffice?
  2. How do I make LibreOffice the default handler for opening PDFs on Windows 8?

Let’s start with #1. What’s the name of the extension you’re trying to install? Is it available from the LibreOffice extension site?

As for part #2, Here’s a great walkthrough of how to change default file associations on Windows 8: http://winsupersite.com/article/windows8/windows-8-tip-change-file-associations-144102

@londonguru – Update? Have you had success with the PDF extension and/or PDF filetype associations?
