I have downloaded a rather large file from google docs (docx format). When I open this file in libre office writer it has lots and lots of blue labels that say “footer default style +”. Some pages have many of these tags and for some reason they seem to slow down mouse wheel scrolling whenever one or more of these tags is on screen. This makes scrolling through the doc very cumbersome and annoying. I have tried to remove them by turning off headers and footers but that didnt seem to work. There seems to be lots of different “header/ footer” settings scattered around the UI and I have tried fumbling around with some of them but I could not find a way to just turn them off. Is there a way that I can turn off these unwanted tags so I can scroll my document as normal? Thanks.
Probably you may try out the Navigator (key F5 or View menu), select the “footer clutter” and erase.

Your problems hardly relate to that blue tags, rather to the size of your document. In my experience, when a DOCX file contains multiple sections, LO converts them to separate page styles even when page layouts are the same. So, if there are footers/headers actually and you don’t need them, perhaps, you should simply delete respective page styles from the Stylist (F11), thus bringing all pages to the Default style.
By the way, Google Docs allows saving text documents to ODT, why not try that option?
Thanks for help, I dont know what was going on with Libre last week but this week all those annoying blue tags are gone. I even tried downloading the doc again from google to see if I do get a choice of what format I want, and the new doc when opened in Libre does not have any annoying blue footer tags anywhere.
FYI I didnt get presented with any options for downloading in different formats by google drive, perhaps there is a setting somewhere but I dont have time to figure it out.
Also I am interested in the comment “each DOCX file can lead one to unexpected adventures in the world of LO’s text processing”. Does that mean docx is not a supported format? or is it just not supported very well?
