Writing month+year in a libreoffice calc cell

If I write, for example, october 2016 in a libreoffice calc cell, in the cell I see 2016.10.01. What do I have to do to see october 2016, as I wrote it?

What do you want to achieve by that sheet?
Spreadsheet software is made to provide functionality, not to put arbitrary things into cells.
The Q&D way:
Entering 'october 2016 (in an English locale) would display the entered character string “as is”, but without the apostrophe. Please note that the result is not a date in Calc terms.

When you enter ‘october 2016’, LO automatically format that cell as date. You could keep cell formating as date and just change date display. To do so, right click on the cell, choose Fromat cell, choose date, and in format code enter MMMM YYYY.

Other solution is to format cell as text. Note date cell formated as date are not good for doing spreadsheet date related operations and calculations.

If I enter format date MMMM YYYY, I read october YYYY, and not october 2016. What I need is format text. Thank you

Sorry, i use italian as language. If I enter data format MMMM AAAA is ok

Accepting the recognition of “october 2016” as a date will convert it to a number representing the first day of the month. There is no representation specified for “only-month-dates”. Thus the display achieved with the MMMM YYYY format code is lying in a sense. It tells less than it pretends to know.
If you intended to get a “subheading” in a list of dates, and later attempt to COUNT the number of dates entered , this kind of subheading will be counted, too.

@Teonisto : if you got satisfying answer to your question, could you please accept the one that worked for you? Other could benefit from it. Thanks

My preferred advice: Enter october_2016 / ottobre_2016 and make clear this way what you intended for the software and for the human reader as well: A text acting as a subheading most likely.
To avoid errors and wrong or misleading results by spreadsheets the leading principle is: Be explicit!

By the way: Subtiles / headings interrupting entered data aggravate evaluations in many cases.

How can I accept it? I find your answer satisfying

To Lupp; I meant to insert a datum referred to a month.

OK. It will be the first day then. You should actally accept @Kruno 's answer.

No, it’s not the first day, it’s the quantity referred to a month. October 2016 - 150; November 2016 - 180

The quantity (numeric value) you get having entered ottobre 2016 in an Italian locale should be 42644.
If otherwise, explain more exactly how you got that accomplished, please.
Best first look into a respective single cell choosing the ‘Numbers’ format ‘General’…

No, I had to insert in a cell one month and in another cell the quantity of a certain thing for that month. I hope I have been clear

You accepted this answer by @Kruno as correct Therefore I assume you did as he suggested. Under this condition:
The cell you entered the “month” in actually conatins a date. It is the date of the first day of the month. It is represented by Calc using a number. This number is 42644 if you entered ottobre 2016. It would be 42645 for the second day of the month. The number you wanted to assign to this entry elsewhere is outside my interest. Hope I was clear finally.
