LibreOffice keep reducing HD space

Hello, I’ve made two attempts to install LO, however,
regardless of the interrupted attempts themselves…
I noticed that although the software hasn’t really
been installed yet, nevertheless, each trial has made
a reduction of about 200MB of the HD space! and I couldn’t
figure out where that occupied space might be, any ideas ?
Thanks in advance

I think it would be useful to provide some info regarding OS type and version as well as LibreOffice version.

Hi Denny, I’m using Windows XP SP3, and have attempted to install the most recent version of LibreOffice. I haven’t made any changes to the file location or whatsoever, just the default settings.

What about Windows System Restore points?

Hi Timon, tried that, but nothing has changed., In fact it even got worse because the system restored all previously deleted software without freeing the mysteriously occupied one

This is likely the result of the install files not being deleted after the installation. The typical size of the LibreOffice installation file is about 200MB. Try using a program like CCleaner which will remove temporary files and leave you with more HD space.

@rmfaileBleachBit is a good FLOSS alternative to CCleaner.

Hi rmfaile, I’ve tried CCleaner before and nothing much happened, do you know where can I find that installation file so I can deleted it manually ?

Hi qubit, I’ll give this one a try, hope it’ll be more useful than CCleaner. …

@Alh – You have not to restore till previous system restore point, but have to clear all restore points except last one. If you don’t know how - simply turn off system restore on all drives and after that again switch it on. Restore point would be done automatically. You’ll find many free space.

Try these folders: C:\Users\ [username]\Downloads, C:\Windows\Temp

@rmfaile I guess that might have been the reason, the Temp file is where I save my 3D renderings usually so when I’ve checked it I noticed it was around 800MB and immediately get rid of everything, albeit, without even having a glance at the folders, so that might be the clue, thanks a lot.

@Timon1, thank you very much for the info Timon, I guess it’s been solved for now, I hope this issue would be prevented in the first place in the next iteration of LO, thanks again everyone, you’ve been very kind and supportive.

To understand your situation better could you please explain

  • which OS are you using?
  • what exactly did you do and what was the reaction of your computer?

Hi @Alh,

Just checking in with you – did you ever find an answer to your question?

Good luck!

Looks like the culprit stealing space might have been some files hanging out in Temp files (possibly coupled with System Restore Points):
