Hi guys
I have just installed this and trying it out instead of Office 365 and was playing and put a footnote into a document and can’t get rid of it.
How do you delete footnotes?

In the answer by @ajlittoz it is worth explaining that anchor means the footnote in the BODY, not the footnote number in the footnote part at the bottom. It should work and @ajlittoz answer should be noted as the solution. Or detail if it is still and issue.
Just delete the footnote anchor:
- put the cursor after the footnote anchor
- press
Backspace

I tried that it didn’t work… 
It is a docx document thought could that be a problem?

Here .docx has no impact: document has been converted to internal form and you play on the internal representation. Beware! If you click directly on the anchor, focus warps to the note itself. This is why you must first click somewhere away from the anchor and close down on it with left/right arrows.
