How do I stop Impress from changing the format of my slides every time I close the program?

I’m trying to make a power point (.pptx) presentation using LibreOffice Impress and when I make my slides the text wrapps and stays inside the slide. I save my presentation and there doesn’t seem to be a problem. I close the document and reopen it and Impress has reformatted my slides such that the text no longer wraps and spills off both the left and right side of the slide. It does this every single time I try to make a presentation, no matter how many times I correct it and save the corrections. I am using LibreOffice 3.6.

How do I correct this?

@zolace – Oh, and you’ll need some more karma to post a comment

That should do it…

Hi @zolace,

I’ve heard several reports of slight formatting tweaks that occur when one saves documents in the PPTX or DOCX format. In these cases, it sounds like there’s an issue with the “round-tripping” or saving and the re-opening of files that contain particular formatting features.

In the short term, the best workaround is to use ODF (.odp, in this case) as your primary storage format, and just export your presentation to PPTX or PDF if you need to share your document with someone who can’t open ODF. The most recent version of MS-Office has ODF 1.2 support, so you might be able to just stick with ODF, depending upon your particular situation.

In the long term, we’d definitely like to solve this issue. Please file a bug report and provide as much information as possible. It would be really helpful to have two files attached:

  1. A really simple ODF file that shows the proper layout
  2. A PPTX export of the ODF file that demonstrates the wrapping problem

The QA team will be happy to help you triage this issue in the bugtracker.

So that we can keep resolve this question on the Ask site, please post a link to your bug in a comment below using the format “fdo#123456”.

Thanks for you help!
