Greetings, I have just upgraded from 3.6 to 4.0, all my settings (keyboard shortcuts, toolbar customizations) are lost. How can I get them back? Do I have to redo everything from the scratch? And perhaps again when 5.0 comes out?

The installation of LO 4.0.x doesn't remove the user profile of LO 3.x.

You may try:
Rename the directory "user" (path: "...\LibreOffice\4\user\") to "user.bak", and replace it with the directory "user" (path: "...\LibreOffice\3\user\").
