How do I merge odt files into a folder

400 numbered pages to merge into 1 folder

Do you want to make one document of them? Or do you want to move them, which would be a task for the operating system. What is “merge”? What kind of document is a “page”?

Create a folder. (We will call it "Book1).
In the folder, create a master document. (File-New-Master )
Type some text. (My pages will be here.).
NOTE: This is important. You MUST type something.
NOTE 2: No, really. Type something you lazy person. Just a few words.
NOTE 3: Just humor me, OK?

Is the navigator open? (F5 to open and close it)

Click on the icon, Insert (hover over icons at the top of the navigator to find insert).

  • Select files
-Browse to your pages and select the files
When you press ‘OK’ your files will be shown in the master document.

Save your master in your new folder, (Book1).
— You have merged your files into one folder —

For extra credit

  1. Now, open each of your files with the 400 numbered pages, un-number them ( if you put the numbers in by hand, you will pay the price of taking the numbers out, by hand).
  2. Select ONE format for text and apply it to each file.
  3. Export the master document into one big file.
c1) This will pull everything into one document.
c2) It could be a PDF, if you are done making changes.

NOTE: Until this point, your merged documents were really just links to all of your 400 pages. Putting them in a Master document is just a trick to allow you to handle all the files as if they were one giant file.

i ASSUME that you have many little files, that you want to pull together.
When I ASSUME, I make an assumption…

BUT if you really have 400 pages in one big file, I really urge you to create many little files, like chapters of a book, Leave off the formatting and just let the software worry it’s pretty little head about page numbers, and where the next chapter begins.
