save cursor position

I’ve found several threads about Writer not saving the cursor position that were all closed because the issue seemed solved. It was a bug in some 4.x versions and you have to enter some user data for it to work.
But I have LibreOffice 5.1.1.3, and I have entered my name in the user data, and still LO refuses to save my cursor position on re-opening documents in many documents. They are odt-documents, not docx or something like that.

Is there another solution? Is it still a known bug?

It’s not enough to have user data on LibO: the document user data must be the same as the program user data. On a document that do not open on the last saved position go to FileProperties, under General tab be sure that “Apply user data” is selected and then click on Reset properties. Press OK and then save, close and reopen the document. Does it work now?

No, that doesn’t make any difference. On opening, the cursor is always at the start of the file.

But let me specify, because I just noticed one thing: it usually doesn’t work when I close and open the document in Web View (which I hugely prefer to the screen space devouring normal view).
In the same document hower, it does work when I use Normal View.

I guess the bug of this feature is that it just doesn’t work (or at least not consistently) in Web View. (Which is a great pity, IMO. I Immensely dislike Normal View.)

I just discovered the same thing - in Web view the cursor position can not be saved. In 'Normal" view the cursor position saves. I too vastly prefer Web View.

It is possible and working fine in LO Writer 6.1. Detailed guide is present below:
