Libre Office- Headings and Numbering

Hello! First time posting here.

I’ve run into some trouble, with a document that was copied from MS Word.

I’m trying to use the Headings (1, 2 and 3) styles, to have something like:

1 Blabla

1.1 qwerty

1.1.1 stuff

1.1.2 more stuff

etc…

But right now, I can’t seem to get the Heading 2 style right, and get:

1 Blabla

1 qwerty

1.1.1 stuff

1.1.2 more stuff

On the “paragraph styles” menu, in “outline & numbering”, both Headings 1 and 3 show “Outline numbering” blocked as the “numbering style”. Heading 2 unblocked, at WWNum6. How do I get it to “Outline numbering” as well?

@anon87010807 omitted to mention that this setting is located in Tools>Chapter Numbering..., tab Numbering. The paragraph style associated to a heading level is selected with the drop-down menu Paragraph style.

A legitimate limitation of LO Writer is you can have only one paragraph style per level.

Be careful with styling as there are huge differences in concept between M$ Word and LO Writer.

One of the notable diferences is Word has no notion of character style. This is why you’ll see many WWNum6-like styles. To avoid chaos in your document, you are strongly advised to save your working copy as .odt and only export the final one to a Word format for exchange.

Another difference is in numbering. Doing so in Word is a nightmare and creates instability. Once again do it in LO Writer with proper use of styles (and don’t hesitate to clean spurious styles like WWNum6).

The setting “Chapter Numbering” was my solution. Thanks!

You have to set the Outline level for Heading 2 to 2 instead of 1. Make sure that you don’t link heading styles to numbered list styles, that will mess up your numbering.
