Can't find the data sources menu item

I’ve registered a data source in Libre Office. Apparently in Writer there is supposed to be a menu item View → Data Sources (or F4). There is no such menu option, and pressing F4 does nothing.
I’m using Libre Office Version: 5.1.6.2.

I’ve just checked with 5.1.6.2x64 on Windows, and I see the menu item at the bottom of View menu. Using it, or pressing F4, brings a Data sources panel at the top of paper area. Even when I hide the panel using its border (so it is only a single border line under toolbars), using F4 twice (first to toggle-close, second to open again) brings it back restored.

Maybe it has something to do with your distro, or installed packages? Also check key bindings (Tools-Customize-Keyboard-LibreOffice).

I checked the key bindings in Writer and there was no binding for View-Data Sources. I added F4. F4 still does nothing in Writer.
View-Data Sources is also missing from Calc. Calc key binding is View-Data Sources = Ctrl+Shift+F4. Pressing this key combination does nothing in Calc.
I’m using Ubuntu 16.04.3 with XFCE. I have another computer with Ubuntu Unity and it is the same.
My guess is that I’ve not set something up correctly, and so Writer & Calc don’t think I have any data sources.

I have the same issue. I have registered a data source in Base, but there is not database menu in CALC. I was using this fine in RHEL7, I installed RHEL 8 and had to re-install libre-office. Now I cant see any database options on view or F4 or CTRL-Shift-F4
libre office build id 6.3.6.2-3.el8

I fixed my issue by re-installing BASE
