Openoffice

having been hacked by something called openoffice with no warning-all my libre office text documents have been changed beyond recognition. How do I get rid of this infernal openoffice program, so I can revert to my previous libre office documents.

Same question asked here

First, OpenOffice, now the property of Apache, is the software that LibreOffice is derived from . There are many sites where you can download install files for OpenOffice with lots of malware added. If you installed the original software from www.openoffice. organisations, don’t worry. Assuming that you are on Windows, all that changed is the icons in the Explorer window. I’ve seen very many questions from people who claimed that OpenOffice had converted their Word files into another format, and it always turned out that it hadn’t, that their files were just fine.
We’ll need more information if you cannot open your files anymore - you may have got a virus or something else, and special action may be necessary to get rid of that.

thanks-i’m on mac and i’d never even heard of open office-it just installed itself and overwrote my libre office files-the data seems alright, but I’ve got used to libre office and don’t see why I should have to start again with this new one! When I open any pre-existing files it says do I want to open libre as a new application and my text documents are much harder to use on open office than libre. I would like to uninstall if I can, but I don’t want to run risk of losing stuff.

(in case of an actually serious problem - not just changed file associations:)

Do you know the site https://forum.openoffice.org/en ? That’s a true forum and there you will find people specifically experienced with the OO branch and much engaged in helping users of OO. There may also be contributors helping in cases of known ways of misusing the name.

But you will not get anywhere if you don’t tell your OS (including the version) and the source of the software/malware (whatever) bothering you along with the best additional information you can give. “I am unhappy” is no information at all in such a case. If a program is running on your system without your consent:
-1- The system was open for malware.
-2- It surely did not come from an approved OpenOffice download site.

One thing for sure: There’s nothing infernal about OO.

hi-i’m on el capitan 10-11-5. the only info I have on the source is that it comes from apache industries. It’s taken me long enough to get used to libre and I don’t want to start learning another unasked for program.
