LO Writer offers headings up to level 10. Headings are paragraphs which have received paragraph styles Heading 1 to Heading 10.

To add any heading to a document, type your paragraph (or select/put the cursor in a paragraph) and give it the appropriate style.

To make this new heading visible in the TOC, update the document with Tools->Update->Update All.

LO Writer is driven by styles. Styles are ubiquitous: pages, paragraphs, characters, frames, lists, tables. They are convenient and powerful tools which save much pain in document writing. You are encouraged to discover the nearly endless possibilities by reading the available doc.
