How to enable global 'cell edit mode' in LibreOffice Spreasheet?

This used to be globally enabled and somehow either I turned it off, or more likely, it was done in one of the latest releases.

Yes, I know I can press F2, but then I have to do so for every cell I intend to check. Having it globally-enabled will save me the trouble (extra key strokes).

In order to edit a cell inline, I’ve always had to press F2. Otherwise, when I type in a cell with existing data, it gets overwritten.

I really don’t understand the term “global cell edit mode”. When cells are edited the input always goes to the one cell under focus. The only thing I can think of concerning your subject is to automatically enter edit mode on selection of another cell.
There isn’t a way I know doing exactly this. However, you can set the option ‘Press Enter to switch to edit mode’ under ‘Tools’ > ‘Options’ > ‘LibreOffice Calc’ > ‘General’ > ‘Input settings’.
It may be more comfortable to your fingers to reach ‘Enter’ than to go to ‘F2’.

(In fact the mentioned setting makes ‘Enter’ a toggle, not a switch-on-key.)

Lupp, your hint put me on the right track, I hope!

Using LO on a Mac, the route is a bit different: LO → Preferences → LO Calc → General - select/check ‘Press Enter to switch to edit mode’. It does toggle the Enter key to F2 functionality, and pressing it again regains the standard Enter function.

Weird, but I’m not going to bitch about this: I have a way, so thanks for making my day a bit brighter.
