Can an address list that is in .ods format be used to creat a mailing list to print Avery address labels. Right now colums do not have headings like first name, city and so on.

I believe I did this last year but the address form I had used was on another computer that had a major failure.

Thinking maybe I need to some how take the spreedsheet and "convert it to a “Database”???

You should insert the headings. Then define a data base; search on the internet “mail merge openoffice” or “mail merge libreoffice”. There are some hints you can effortlessly use.

In coming versions (Libreoffice 6) the way will be simpler, but not now (see: V.Miklos blog)

Also try out: File menu > Labels…
If you have done mail merge some time ago you can find the right way by intuition.

No, it is simple already since 5.1 (see: V.Miklos blog)

The blog you referred to describes that now you also can use ODTs (i.e., writer documents!) as data source.

As the pre-requisite, create the labels in the first row of ODS, as noted by @Grantler.

You must make sure that your ODT document is saved. That is important!

Then, you just use the Mail Merge wizard to load the ODS as data source, and then drag fields from Data Sources panel (Ctrl+Shift+F4) to required places in document. See this blog and its video for details.
