LibreOffice can work without Java. What OS, LibreOffice version? What error do you get?
There was a security fix to Java on 4th March 2013, which is probably what the question is referring to. Java SE 6 Update 43 and Java SE 7 Update 17 were released (according to Wikipedia Java version history). I am providing this for information only because as the comment by Timon suggests, LO can work without Java.
