Altering horizontal line default style

I want to alter the default horizontal line style in Writer such that the modified style is available every time I open Writer. Currently I have to re-modify the style every time I open Writer, and this is getting quite old and stale. So far I have not found documentation on how to change the default style to one more of my liking. Anyone have a clue as to how to do this such that it remains permanent?

Thanks to the responders! Their answers taught me how to do the horizontal line as a default for all documents. What I really want, though, is to alter the default horizontal line that is available via the F11 Styles and Formatting menu so that I can use it on an as-needed basis, not as a default for all documents. I hope this clarifies things. Please keep the input coming! I appreciate the opportunity to learn new tricks.

No, you don’t need to modify it for all documents: make new horizontal rule style based on default one (F11) and save such file as template. Old documents will not be affected and you can always insert that new horizontal rule when needed.

Well, your best bet is open empty document, modify horizontal line style and then saving that empty document as template: FileTemplatesSave as Template…. After that do FileTemplatesManage Templates. Choose template you need and do right click and choose Set as default.

Create a template with all your custom settings: not only Default Style but all others such as page, character, list, …. You can even pre-fill your template with fixed text like your company name and address in footer or header.

Save this template as a template, i.e. with extension .odt, in a convenient (for you) location.

Open ToolsOptions, LibreOfficePaths to check Templates path. Edit this setting to eventually add your private directory where you stored your custom template. Click the radio button to make it the default. Close with OK (twice).

Then open FileTemplatesManage Templates. Filter by Writer Documents to display only templates for Writer. Right-click on your custom template and choose Define as default.

Next time you open Writer, your custom template is automatically loaded.
