Slow download (again)

I am in Australia and trying to download v5.3.7 but estimated times are between 8 and 12 hours!
nearest mirror suggested seems to be Japan?

Found 1 mirror which handle this country (AU)
http://www.ftp.ne.jp/office/tdf/libreoffice/stable/5.3.7/win/x86_64/LibreOffice_5.3.7_Win_x64.msi (au, prio 100)

map suggests there is one in Sydney AU but I can’t see it in the list under

  • Found 73 mirrors in other parts of the world

other documentations suggests two in AU and 1 in Singapore but I can’t find them either.

I have downloaded a few months ago (to a PC that is getting replaced) and I didn’t have this issue.

any help?

Try to download from any part of the world, and see which offers a descent speed.

The mirrors are provided by volunteers over the world; if there’s not enough people interested in providing mirrors in your region, it’s unfortunate, but nothing to be done here.

thanks Mike, but as I said I downloaded a few months ago w no issue. I didn’t note at the time where it came from - outside my technical interest zone.
Why I asked on here is there are plenty of indications there are other mirrors more local, I just can’t seem to find them. I emailed support a day or so ago so maybe they can help.

Huh? What is that “support” you are talking about?

You didn’t mention where you get that information from. If you had downloaded without problems before might mean the opposite: e.g., that several months ago, there wasn’t a single mirror near you, and you downloaded from, say, Germany or USA. Or may be it was another mirror near you that is gone now.

and in another post they had a list of mirror sites which said two in AU. sry, dont have link now, on old defunct computer.

found this, which is similar to the one posted elsewhere that I was referring to that showed 2 AU sites, but this one shows only one - and maybe that one has gone now?

Thanks for posting about this issue. I’m also in Australia (Sydney) and experienced the same issue.
I just let the PC run overnight until it completed the download.

I tried that but couldn’t get a good uncorrupted file.
What I found was you should be able to find a mirror site that will download in less than 5-10 minutes (depending on your connection speed). Took some trial and error tho.

Solved. Sort of.
Support said there had been an issue with a slow mirror site and they had made some changes.
However, for me, that just meant JP wasn’t the mirror servicing AU (none were), but when I tried to download it used that one anyway. 9 hours estimate.

Tried this Singapore one
http://download.nus.edu.sg/mirror/tdf/libreoffice/stable/5.3.7/win/x86_64/LibreOffice_5.3.7_Win_x64.msi (sg, prio 100)
which only took 30 mins but file was corrupted an wouldn’t install.

then tried another Singapore one:
http://mirror7.layerjet.com/tdf/libreoffice/stable/5.3.7/win/x86_64/LibreOffice_5.3.7_Win_x64.msi (sg, prio 50)
much faster
and installed correctly.

hope that might help someone else in this part of the world.

now, if I can just work out why ‘prove I am not a robot’ keeps asking me in different languages - lucky to have guess right so far.
