Creating fonts

Hi,

Could someone please give me a link to an up-to-date tutorial about creating, installing and sharing a font for libre office?

Thank you

Developing a font is a daunting task that requires not only artistic dexterity but also good programming skills. You may start with FontForge’s documentation.

Installing a font is an operative system issue. On most systems a right click on the font file is enough. To share, you need an online repository. There are many that offer free accounts for open source project like GitHub, GitLab, etc. Google fonts and many open source font projects like Libertinus, EB Garamond, Cormorant, etc are hosted on GitHub.

Also, LibreOffice allows to embed fonts into documents

Thank you.

It’s a special font for kids with learning difficulties. The letters are hollow (only the edges are drawn). There is a little dot on the spot where the pen should be placed at the start. Then there are arrows showing which way to go.

I won’t need artistic skills because I have a model of each letter. They are made of plastic, and the child can trace them with his or her finger. He or she can feel the arrows : it feels smooth if the child is going the right way and a little bit prickly otherwise. They are called “Tactile letters”.

My daughter has finally mastered tracing them with her finger and I’m moving her on to pen and paper. At first I drew the letters by tracing the contours of the plastic letters on a white sheep of paper and scanning the result. But making an exercise sheet this way takes ages, every letter is a bitmap…

So I’ll have a go at creating this font. If I manage, I guess other parents are also going to use it.
