Find command in Impress not working

Hi, I am trying to use FIND command in Impress. It’s not working. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello @asandl,

If you press CTRL+F in Impress, or select the menu Edit : Find..., then the “Find” toolbar appears at the bottom of the window.

There you can enter directly the search term to be found.

If you want to use the Find & Replace dialog instead, then select the menu Edit : Find & Replace... ( CTRL+H ).

HTH, lib

Hi Librebel – that’s what I’m doing. I am proceeding just as you indicated but nothing happens. If I type a word I know is in the document it does not find it. I tried using the Find command in Libre Writer and it works as expected. I’m perplexed!

ic @asandl, please see if it helps if you go to the Find & Replace dialog by pressing CTRL+H, then under Other Options make sure that all checkboxes there are Unchecked, then just perform a dummy search, then click the Close button.

Hi again LIbrebel – all boxes are unchecked in the Find and Replace dialog. I tried that initially but it didn’t work. But I do have an update to report: I have read previously that a corrupt User Profile can cause problems. One suggestion was to run LIbre in ‘safe mode’ to see if the error corrects itself. And now the strange part! I went into safe mode and was still not successful – however after waiting about 5 minutes or so the ‘find’ function works perfectly well. Any thoughts?

Good job @asandl, my best guess is that it was solved by going into ‘safe mode’ and back into normal mode.

Just one more comment – maybe I solved it. I am no Libre expert, but my working on this caused Libre to crash a couple of times. When this happens, Libre offers a hierarchy of options to change your user profile. I checked the option to remove extensions and restarted in normal mode. This appears to have fixed the problem because the ‘Find’ command appears to be working. Thanks very much for your help Librebel!

Another question on this topic please. In my document I need to replace a word with the same word but with the replacement word using a different text colour and font. Is there a way to do that please?
