Hi everyone, I want to know how to center an image that I have inserted into a writer document so that it is exactly in the middle of the page (horizontally- not exactly in the middle of the entire page).

Just figured how to horizontally centre-align an image in my writer document.
- Drag and drop the image on to the page and resize if needed
- Make sure the image is selected
- The Anchor icon appears in the ‘Ribbon’ menu bar → further along is an ‘Align’ button, click on the down arrow next to it and alignment options appear.
Use anchoring “As character”, and use usual alignment (left/right/center) as you do with text.
If your image is not an element of some paragraph, i.e.its position does not matter vis-a-vis a paragraph (you can always insert a cross-reference to cite its reference number or caption if you need it without having the image inside said paragraph), the best anchor is To page. The frame/picture insertion dialog has a section called Position where you can center it vertically and horizontally. Wrap options tell how text flows around or through the picture.
In case you need your image to be related to some paragraph, so that editions (text insertion/deletion) do not separate the image from this paragraph, the convenient anchor is As character making the image a “big” character of the paragraph. In this case, the positioning possibilities within the paragraph are limited to small adjustments relative to character baseline. You essentially align the paragraph as a whole: left/center/right between paragraph margins, margin settings and spacing above/below.

Please do not anchor images to page. This anchor type is unstable, as it anchors content to some dynamically-allocated entity (page) that might change at any point.
But positioning relative to page is a good thing.
@mikekaganski: do you know of anchor guidelines? I’ve hard very hard times with anchors and concluded that only “to page” and “as character” where usable for predictable and reliable results. I’d like to be able to choose based on sensible arguments.
Well, I have my own experience, and “As character”, “To character” and “To paragraph” all work for me. I don’t have a reference manual, but I see how it is implemented, and base my conclusions on these - hard-to-put-in-words - bases.
