Java Runtime Environment required

Windows 10, latest java as at 24.01.2018 (version 8 update 161), libreoffice 5.4.3 64 bit.

Every time I start LO I get a message saying that a JRE is required even though the latest version is installed. The operation of LO doesn’t seem to be affected, but it’s a nuisance.

I’ve checked out similar questions. As far as I can tell, both the Java version and the LO version are 64 bit. Hard to tell with Java, but Oracle only offer one version and it does install in the Program Files (x86) folder, so who knows.

When I go to the advanced options, no Java RE is selected and none is shown. Trying to add the JRE in the Program Files (x86) folder fails with a message saying the folder does not contain a JRE.

It can’t be just me. Does anyone else have the same problem and, more importantly, a solution?

Thanks

Peter

As your Java is in Program Files (x86) it is 32 bit. 64 bit will be in Program Files.

As far as I can tell, both the Java version and the LO version are 64 bit. Hard to tell with Java, but Oracle only offer one version and it does install in the Program Files (x86) folder, so who knows.

This is the problem. People tend to only see One Big Red Button, and don’t notice the tiny See all Java downloads or FAQ about 64-bit Java for Windows at Java download page. Your Java is 32-bit, and you need to install 64-bit Java from their manual download page.

“…but Oracle only offer one version and it does install in the Program Files (x86) folder,…”

-1- Windows should only have 32-bit software in Program Files (x86)
-2- What Oracle site did you visit? What abot this one?
-3- A 64-bit LibO will not accept a 32-bit Java RE probably. The message may be misleading.

BTW: If I disable the JRE LibO starts without any error-message nonetheless.
