what format is the best to save a document in to sent to others who use microsoft windows

I have sent a document by email, and receiver cannot open it. What is the most compatable format to use please for those using Microsoft word?

You don’t say what format you sent the document in - but MS Office after around 2007 should be able to open ODF format files.

If the document doesn’t need to be edited at the other end, PDF would be a possibility.
