LibreOffice 5.4.4.2 Linux Mint 18 Java 8.161 Solver Crashes

Program crashes on any attempt to invoke the solver function. Nothing else installed on the device. Only Linux, Libre, Java.

Interesting read , but a collection of older versions, “it’s somebody else’s fault,” and no: “here’s how to FIX it.” Clearly a persistent issue.

Sigh… comment 16.

Close (enough) “Add kernel parameter stack_guard_gap=1” had NO EFFECT. Ditching Oracle Java in favor of OpenJDK (as long as one does not attempt to open the solver on an empty workbook) appears to function properly. The problem with the reference is that the author explicitly said he does NOT NEED a Java runtime environment, which I DO, so I ignored the suggestions thinking they were not quite applicable. Mea culpa. All’s well if it eventually works. Thanks for the patience.

Based on more investigation, answering my own question for those with similar issues … replacing Oracle’s Java in favor of OpenJDK (as long as one does not attempt to open the solver on an empty workbook) appears to function properly. Can’t guarantee 100% performance but at least not 100% CRASH.
